1. SC Cornhole Games Cornhole Bags

Like with the cornhole boards we’ve reviewed, we’ve found that it’s best to pay a little bit extra to ensure your cornhole equipment lasts for years to come.

SC Cornhole’s bags are truly worth the extra money: made with durable duck cloth, they’re suitable for play on all surfaces including concrete.

Filled with synthetic plastic pellets, these bags are also resistant to water and mold growth. They even come with a 1-year warranty for peace of mind when buying.

These bags are made to the official ACO regulations, measuring 6″ by 6″ and weighing in at around 15 ounces.

There’s also a huge range of color options to choose from, allowing you to pick a palette that matches your cornhole board.

SC Cornhole Games Cornhole Bags

Pros

  • Excellent durability.
  • Made to official size & weight guidelines.
  • Massive range of colors available.

Cons

  • Slightly expensive, but you definitely get what you pay for.
Overall value

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2. Tailgating Pros Cornhole Bags

Tailgating Pros’ cornhole bags are quite similar to SC Cornhole’s product – both are made to official size and weight regulations and both come in a massive number of color combinations.

However, these bags are filled with real dried corn kernels rather than plastic pellets.

The downside to this is that they aren’t as weather resistant and can lose weight over time.

However, these cornhole bags offer more authentic performance which is great for advanced players. If your local events require you to use bags filled with real corn kernels, you’ll need to practice at home with the same sort of bags.

Although these cornhole bags don’t include a warranty, they’re made in the USA and come with 1-3 day expedited shipping.

Tailgating Pros’ bags are also a bit cheaper than our #1 pick, but are just as well-made.

Image

Tailgating Pros Cornhole Bags

Pros

  • Authentic performance due to corn kernel filling.
  • Huge range of color options.
  • Good overall build quality (stitching doesn’t come apart easily).

Cons

  • Not very rain resistant – may lose weight over time.
Overall value

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

3. Play Platoon Weather Resistant Cornhole Bags

These cornhole bags are filled with sand, making them incredibly weather resistant.

Unlike bags filled with corn kernels, Play Platoon’s product won’t go moldy when wet and won’t lose weight over time.

Plus, sand is a cheaper option than plastic pellets, making these some of the best cornhole bags available if you’re on a tight budget.

Because they’re double stitched and incredibly weather-resistant, the company offers a lifetime warranty on these bags, promising to replace them with a new set if they ever break.

However, the issue with sand is it doesn’t perform the same as bigger pellets.

Although the bag is the regulation size, it may slide less than a normal bag as more of the filling comes to rest at the bottom of the pouch.

This is why these bags are a recommended option for casual players and families rather than pros.

Play Platoon Weather Resistant Cornhole Bags

Pros

  • Great price.
  • Durable and weather resistant.
  • Comes with a carry bag and a lifetime warranty.

Cons

  • Doesn’t always perform exactly like a regulation bag – sand filling.
Overall value

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

4. JBM Weather Resistant Cornhole Bags

If your family plays cornhole pretty seriously, you might want some bags with a filling other than sand to ensure they slide really nicely.

At the same time, you’d want the bags to be durable and meet ACO size and weight regulations.

With their weather-resistant cornhole bags, JBM has ticked all of these boxes.

Filled with recycled plastic pellets, these cornhole bags feel just like they’re made with real corn while still being able to handle the rain. With regards to durability, JBM uses a tough duck canvas cover and also offers a 1-year warranty against defects.

They also include a handy carry bag, which proves to be really useful when tailgating or camping – losing a single bag can be pretty annoying!

The downside is that these bags are a bit light, coming in at around 13oz rather than the regulation 15-16.

Kids don’t mind this but if you’re used to the normal 15-16oz bags it’s better to stick to the regulation weight.

JBM Weather Resistant Cornhole Bags

Pros

  • Great value.
  • Plastic filling – authentic slide & bounce.
  • 1-year warranty – very durable.

Cons

  • Bit light – 12-13oz.
Overall value

⭐⭐⭐⭐

5. GoSports Premium All-Weather Cornhole Bags

GoSports all-weather cornhole bags are probably your best bet for play in rainy conditions.

Measuring 6″ by 6″ and weighing in at 16oz, these cornhole bags meet ACO regulations, resulting in a great slide and feel when throwing.

The plastic pellet filling, along with the duck cloth casing, makes these bags suitable for play in wet conditions without sacrificing performance.

As an added bonus, GoSports includes a handy tote bag and also guarantees to replace any product that breaks. Plus, these bags come in an awesome stars/stripes color combination that’s sure to impress.

Although the seams on this product aren’t the most durable on the market, the price is very reasonable. You can’t really beat the weather-resistance of these bags, and GoSports’ guarantee against defects is a great thing to have.

Pros

  • Comes with a warranty against defects.
  • Great performance in any weather.
  • Awesome design!
  • Reasonable price.

Cons

  • Not incredibly durable.

6. ToySharing USA Cornhole Bags

GoSports’ all-weather set not American enough for you?

These cornhole bags come with an awesome tote bag, styled to look just like the flag of the US of A.

What’s more, the bags themselves feature a stunning star/stripe design, similar to the set we just reviewed.

Apart from the look, the best thing about these bags is how durable they are, especially considering that they’re filled with real corn kernels.

They’re made of traditional duck cloth, but feature a revolutionary internal plastic lining to keep water (and insects) at bay.

The end result? An ultra-durable, weather-resistant product that feels just like a cornhole bag should.

What’s more, ToySharing offer a lifetime warranty with their bags, and their customer service is incredibly helpful. While these bags may split eventually depending on how often you use them, this guarantee offers incredible peace of mind.

Overall, the only thing we can fault these bags for is their cost. The plastic lining is a really nice design feature.

GoSports Premium All-Weather Cornhole Bags

Pros

  • Looks great.
  • Corn filling – traditional weight and feel.
  • Plastic lining protects against moisture.
  • Great value for money.

Cons

  • Tiny bit expensive.

7. Free Donkey Sports All-Weather Cornhole Bags

This is yet another product that claims to be an all-weather cornhole bag. But how does it hold up?

Free Donkey’s bags come with plastic pellets, so you’re not going to experience any issues with mold or critters eating all your corn.

Despite this, they still slide nicely, and feel like cornhole bags should. In fact, they’re extremely durable.

However, there is a bit of inconsistency when it comes to the weight of these bags. The company say that they weigh anything from 14-16oz. These aren’t cheap cornhole bags either.

Essentially, these bags are great for use at parties, or when camping in wet weather. They’re durable and won’t get moldy.

In saying this, there are better cornhole bags out there in terms of consistency.

Pros

  • Extremely durable.
  • Mold-proof.
  • Good slide.
  • Won’t get waterlogged.

Cons

  • Inconsistent weight.
  • Slightly expensive.

Cornhole Bag Buyer’s Guide

With so many different cornhole bags on the market, it’s important to know what to look for.

This way, your new bags will last more than a single summer, and will perform as they should when they impact the board.

Cornhole bag size

According to American Cornhole Organization regulations, each cornhole bag must measure 6″ by 6″. This is the size you’ll want to go for, unless your cornhole board has a small hole.

The regulation cornhole board hole size is 6″ in diameter, which is the same as the length and width of a cornhole bag.

Therefore, if you have a custom-designed board with a hole that’s for example 5″ in diameter you’ll want a 5″ by 5″ bag. However, most cornhole bags for sale are the regulation size (6″ by 6″) so smaller bags may be hard to come by.

Each bag should weigh between 15 and 16 ounces.

Different cornhole bag materials

Official rules state that cornhole bags must be made of double-stitched fabric for durability. Look for these double stitches and high-quality craftsmanship – avoid cheap Chinese products.

Manufacturers normally use duck cloth, a type of cotton fabric, which is a great material for cornhole bags due to its toughness. It’s also relatively water resistant and can withstand impacts with concrete or gravel.

Cornhole bag fillings

Essentially there are three different options:

  1. Dried corn kernels: the ACO specifies corn as the filling of choice for cornhole bags. Although they’re environmentally sustainable, corn kernels can break down over time resulting in the bag losing much of its weight. This filling can also become moldy quite easily, and the bags can be ruined if they get wet. However, corn kernels offer the most authentic feel and performance upon impacting the board – the game is called cornhole, after all.
  2. Plastic pellets: a less traditional option, plastic pellets offer increased durability and better water resistance.  At the same time, they offer almost identical performance to corn kernel bags. For this reason, they’re our preferred option despite the increased cost.
  3. Sand: acts as a cheap alternative to corn kernels that’s more weather resistant. The issue with sand is it doesn’t perform the same as kernels/pellets when thrown – the bag may slide less. However, due to its price and weather resistance, it’s a great option for casual players and tailgaters.

Cornhole sets

If you’re brand new to cornhole, you’re probably better off buying a cornhole set rather than getting each item you need separately.

Cornhole boards (like the ones below) normally come with 8 cornhole bags so you can begin playing immediately.

Taking care of your cornhole bags

Cornhole bags, particularly ones made with real corn, can be quite delicate.

To ensure your new bags last more than a year or so:

  • Store them in a cool, dry place, away from sharp edges that might poke through the fabric. Your garage or basement should be a good place.
  • Dry your bags immediately if they get wet to avoid them becoming moldy.
  • Ensure your storage location is pest-free. Some insects like to chew through fabric.
  • Stitch up any seams that begin to come undone. If you get quality bags you shouldn’t notice any such issues for 3-4 years at least.

Don’t want to buy cornhole bags?

Making your bags yourself can be incredibly fulfilling, and are a great way to show off (provided you do a good job)!

It’s not too difficult to make your own cornhole bags, especially if you have experience with a sewing machine.

Essentially, you’ll need duck cloth, thread, and some type of filling. Traditionally, homemade cornhole bags are made with real corn kernels.

Conclusion

Hopefully you found this buyer’s guide helpful 🙂

Remember, it’s often worth going for the more expensive option when buying cornhole bags. In our experience, it’s better to have the replacement guarantee rather than risk buying a $15 set of bags and having some of them break. Having said this, there are good budget options that are relatively durable and offer great performance.

Another great game to try that also requires good hand/eye coordination is Bocce.
